Ernie Banks is one of my favorite players of all time because of his endless enthusiasm for life and the game of baseball. He just seemed like the kind of guy you would be lucky to have in your life.
He was an excellent all-around player and could hit for power while playing shortstop, which is one of the most athletic positions on the baseball field.
He was tall and lanky with extremely quick and strong hands he used to whip the bat through the strikezone and that always stands out when I watch old highlights of him.
And that’s what this painting captures… that moment of Ernie Banks launching a long ball. I’m proud of the composition, too… the angle of the base path parallels the flight of the ball – up up and away!
