Hank Aaron might be the greatest position player ever to play the game. He batted over .300 for his 23 year career, had the all-time home run record when he retired, still holds the all-time records for RBI’s, total bases, and extra base hits, and amassed 3,771 hits as a power hitter!
He also had one of the best nicknames, “Hammerin’ Hank”, and what I think was a classic batting stance.
I painted him here as a youngster in his Milwaukee Braves uniform. I love this uniform! I love the red piping, the dark blue socks with red and gold piping, the two-toned hat. Honestly, though not politically correct I’m sure, I like the howling Indian on the sleeve, too.
I painted the crowd in the shadows with shades of blue, which really helps to pop Hank Aaron in the foreground.
