I had an idea with this one to create a good space to sit down and read. This painting is interesting because I designed a space that could be recreated in real life, but I also designed it with the picture plane in mind.
Henri Matisse was famous for saying, “What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter – a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.”
This is my homage to Matisse and his idea on art. Both paintings on the walls are Matisse’s and both are titled, “Blue Nude.” The one on the right is “Blue Nude (Souvenir de Biskra)“, painted in 1907. The one on the left is “Blue Nude III“, painted later in his career in 1952.
Another Matisse quote says, “A picture must possess a real power to generate light and for a long time now I’ve been conscious of expressing myself through light or rather in light.”
I believe Matisse would love painting on the iPad for this reason. I’m really happy with how his paintings turned out when I created them on my iPad… every color is pure, with no muddiness. They have a real stained glass quality and possess an inner light that I believe Matisse would enjoy.
