Although I realize that many couldn’t wait for the year to end, 2017 has been a great year for me and my family… we started the year in beautiful San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and ended it in Tirana, Albania… with stops in Guanajuato, Mexico City, London, Corfu, and Saranda in between. We also found out that we would be adding a 3rd child to our family, who we believe to be a girl (thank God!), unless we get surprised on delivery day like some friends of ours have.
As my life goes on, I have made a concerted effort to listen to my intuition and everything creative-wise has been leading me in a much freer direction with how I approach my art. (The 4 paintings below are great examples of my new direction)…
I have now been traveling full-time with my wife and kids for almost 2 years and the landscapes we see along the way are always inspiring, but I haven’t felt great about how I’ve expressed them through painted form… I want to use all I’ve learned over the years to express myself in my favorite way; which is simple, colorful, and expressive.
I have also felt increasingly restricted with what had been my favorite subject to paint the last couple of years, baseball players… my creativity has been pulling me into a very modern way of painting, but baseball fans tend to be pretty traditional and haven’t quite caught on to the direction I was going. Rather than try to fit a square peg in a round hole, I am moving on.
Going forward, I will be reaching back to my memories of past travels to create more landscapes, as well as finding inspiration wherever I am currently residing… my intuition, creativity, and passion are pulling me in this direction and I am excited to share what I come up with!
Lastly, I am going to start regularly blogging on my own website… I’ve been writing here and there for other websites but my wife suggested I write and share my stories on my own blog, which does make a lot of sense… I can’t believe that 2012 was the last time I wrote on my own blog! (If you are subscribed to my email list, this means you will be getting more frequent emails from me, so feel free to unsubscribe if this bugs you.)
Here’s to a great 2018!
