Surprisingly, I created this after Monique had already given birth to our second son, Grant. The reason for this is because she didn’t come up with the idea until about 2 months after she had already given birth! So I posed Monique holding Sam on her now very un-pregnant belly and used another photo reference and some imagination to create the finished product.
The background was another painting to itself! Palo Verde trees were in full bloom while she was still pregnant, so I included them and some other favorite flowering plants that grow here in Tucson – the blue-purple ruellia and yellow roses. The Catalina mountains are also in the background. I used this composition to emphasize the beauty of life in full bloom.
