Pedro Martinez was one of my favorite pitchers. He was small in stature but big in heart. To this day, I’m still mad that my favorite team, the Dodgers, traded him to the Expos!
He didn’t have a long career like a Randy Johnson or Nolan Ryan, but he sure did dominate for the years he was active, more like a right-handed Sandy Koufax.
Like Koufax, he could be intimidating with the way he pitched – he would fearlessly pitch inside unlike many of his contemporaries. When asked how many batters he hit on purpose, he said, “Probably 90% of them”.
