I was feeling a little depressed by the state of U.S. and World politics when I created this painting and the mood of the piece definitely reflects that… don’t let the pastel colors fool you, something terrible has happened and we are now witnessing the aftermath in this piece.
I created this landscape of Tucson along the Catalina Highway, which is on the way to Mount Lemmon. It’s kind of a bittersweet painting, because it shows how invasive Buffelgrass is taking over parts of the Sonoran Desert, which threatens to take out the native plants, like Saguaros, because it can spread fire so easily.
