This was the second painting I completed in a new series of baseball portraits I am creating. Compared to my last series of baseball action paintings, this one is much looser in brushstrokes and more vibrant in color. My artistic inspirations for this series are Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, and David Hockney.
I chose Mike Trout as my second subject because my second favorite team since I was a kid is the Angels and he is one of my favorite players. (Of course, he is also considered the best player in the game today). Personality-wise, he’s a confident guy without coming off as arrogant. I chose blue for the background because it indicates dependability, trust, and strength – and also compliments the bright red of his uniform.
