Sandy Koufax – the Man, the Myth, the Legend! It has been said he had “the left arm of God”. I don’t know if that’s true, but the guy sure could pitch! Of course, he did his pitching before I was born, but his legend lives on.
He was one of my great-grandmother’s favorite players and he had a 5 year run of dominance that inspires awe to this day. When I decided to paint him, I wanted to capture the “calm before the storm”, so to speak.
Sandy was Jewish, of course, and there is something about his windup that reminds me of the Italian artist, Bernini’s sculpture of David as he’s winding up to slay Goliath.
