Tony Gwynn is one of my all-time favorite players. The reference photo I used, I just love his expression — he’s like, “Show me what ya got, son!” — but he’s wearing the blandest Padres uniform they’ve ever created!
So I added the orange outline to the blue word mark and the blue pinstripes they used to wear in their 90’s glory days. I kept the number on the front – one of the few things the uniform got right.
(My first tee-ball team I was on was the Padres — we wore the yellow and brown, which was unique to the Padres. I still think they could come up with a great uniform using brown, but the orange and blue was a good combo, in my opinion. The yellow and blue they started wearing this season isn’t bad, either, but I think they could make it better.)
