I was inspired to create this painting because I looked at these mountains on a daily basis when I lived in Tucson, Arizona. I approached the painting process in a very Cezanne-like way, with big daubs of colors layered over each other in a very loose, yet calculated manner. My wife says this looks like a “happy mountain” and I would agree… I loved looking at it on a daily basis and observing the way the light and shadows would change the “mood” of the mountain. This painting is from a day when both I and the mountain were happy.
